About

Patrick Fulgencio is a Philippine-born photographer based in the East Coast of North America. He specializes in documenting events and capturing portraits in available light.

In his years of studying journalism at the University of King's College in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he has spent most of his time learning about photojournalism and honing his technical photography and videography skills.

His first attempt at sports photography earned him a place in the World Curling Federation's annual Sports Media Trainee Programme. Through that, he met many professionals on the field while covering the 2015 World Junior Curling Championships in Tallinn, Estonia and the 2015 Ford World Men's Curling Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Since then, his work has appeared on the front of newspapers, magazines, and websites of various genres around the world.

Upon completing his studies in journalism, he intends to move to the United States to cover important issues surrounding visible minorities, and tell the stories of those marginalized and without a voice.

Testimonials

Patrick joined our media team as trainee photographer at the World Junior Curling Championships in Tallinn, Estonia in February 2015. His ability with a camera was clear from the offset, further demonstrated in his inventiveness in finding new and interesting angles from which to photograph the sport. He possesses a strong photographic eye, deserving of nurture. It is a credit to him that after ten long and tiring days, he was still going strong, his natural enthusiasm undimmed!

I worked with Patrick in capturing 3 looks including the cover of the first issue of a Toronto street-style publication, Bush Magazine. The day was flawless! Patrick is an amazing photographer to work with. He is approachable and laid back which allowed me to be my crazy and goofy self in front of the camera. We captured some amazing looks and I won’t hesitate calling upon him for more style adventures!

Patrick came to our attention when, as a second-year University of King’s College journalism student, he won a photography competition to cover an international sporting event in Estonia. We inquired whether his keen eye could be applied to video, too. Patrick has produced six videos for us. He has talent, is open to communication with the client, and produces quality video and sound at a reasonable price.

Patrick is a dedicated and enthusiastic photographer. He covered various events for Newzulu during my time there as an editor. He took photos of protests, art battles and local news in Halifax. Patrick demonstrated the ability to take high quality news photos. He met all deadlines and pitched significant, newsworthy ideas constantly. He responded well to advice and criticisms, and worked hard to improve his photography skills with each assignment.
